For the past 50 years AFE members have had an opportunity to influence the future of engineering students from - Cal Maritime University, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo University, San Jose State University by holding this annual “Day with a Facilities Professional” event.

This event provides an invaluable opportunity for a student who wants more information about a career in the Facilities Engineering profession to join a host, for an afternoon of “job shadowing”. Students attend the event for nominal fee and need to be able to take a day off of school to attend.

2011 Annual Northern California Facilities Expo
We had a great show in September at the Santa Clara Convention Center -

One of APT's manufacturer's Triacta joined us at the show and did a presentation on High Density Sub-Metering

Here is a link to the sub-metering presentation Triacta Presentation Link and here is the PowerHawk Datasheet

Who needs High density sub-metering?? If you have any of these it is time to check out high density metering-

  1. Large monthly energy bill or cost of interruption
  2. Critical Power & Reliability Requirements
  3. Project spec. calls for coordination with 15000 Mechanical contractor or BMS subcontractor
  4. Anywhere new UPS, Generator, ATS, trip units, relays or meters are being installed and customer wants data in BMS
  5. Multiple electrical manufacturer’s meters specified or already on site
  6. Customer problem requires more than just a single meter

APT's Rich Celio did an educational seminar on "Smart Reports" here is the link to download the presentation

Topic  “Smart Reports”

Data Everywhere, but we can’t find anything! Meters and networks usually called the BMS or EMS system is nothing more than a bunch of instruments gathering data for you.  Metering instruments from Electric, water or gas can be put to work to get you Smart Reports out of your system that provides you with answers when you need them.  Automation is not just for turning on and off lights, or temperature setpoints.  It can be used to generate smart reports that provide the answers to your success indicators.  And when you measure success, you will succeed.
